Karman graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with a
degree in Humanities and Engineering. He worked in aerospace and private
computer industries as a software engineer prior to earning his Doctorate in
Clinical Psychology from Biola University, Roemead School of Psychology, and obtaining his license as a Psychologist in 1986. Dr.
Karman also holds a Diplomate in Psychopharmacology.
In 1986, Dr. Karman
founded the Sunteleo Center, Inc., initially providing psychological services
to Brea and surrounding communities. Sunteleo, pronounced "Sun’-tell-aye’-oh,"
is a Greek word meaning comprehensive. Dr. Karman purposed to provide a full
range of psychological services with his practice.
Professional Service Memberships and Activities
Dr. Karman is active
within the field of psychology. In addition to being an American Psychological
Association Member, he served the California Association of Psychology
Providers (CAPP) as a member of the Board of Directors from 1986 to 1989 during
which time CAPP gained independent hospital privileges for psychologists in
California. He further served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Los
Angeles County Psychological Association (LACPA) from 1988 to 1992. His further
service to LACPA included serving as Chairman of the Victim Treatment Panel,
Coordinated Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Training for 100 Psychologists, was
the Chairman for the Executive Director Search Committee, and was a Disaster
Mental Health Team Member. Further in his field, he was Treasurer on the Board
of Trustees for the Wright Institute of Los Angeles, a psychoanalytical
Dr. Karman's community activities have included being a Member of
the MIT Educational Council from 1991-2000, for whom he
interviewed local high school seniors for MIT and represented MIT
at high school events.
As a Board Member of the Rio Hondo Chapter of the American Red
Cross, Dr. Karman was Chairman of the Mental Health Disaster
Services where he performed volunteer mental health evaluations
and brief interventions, defusings, and debriefings for trauma
He served Rotary International, Brea
Chapter, as Chairman of the Program Committee for their
weekly luncheons and seeks, schedules, and introduced their weekly
speakers. In addition, he served as liaison with the local high school
service club, Interact. He actively participated in The Rotary Club o
Brea's community services programs and fund raising projects.

As Clinical Director of the Sunteleo Center, Inc., Dr. Karman provides
clinical services, psychotherapy with all age groups, individuals,
couples, and families and the full range of disorders.
In addition, he previously
provided assessments under the Workers' Compensation system,
but now works with attorneys to focus on difficult Social Security
cases which other medical and mental health professionals have not
been successful in representing.
Dr. Karman's corporate consultations have included employee
evaluations, medical records review, second opinions, medical-legal
consultation, management training, industrial trauma debriefing and

From 1992 through 1996, Dr. Karman was the Southern California
Area Consulting Psychologist for Pacific Bell where he provided over
2500 psychological disability and fitness-for-duty evaluations,
assessing emotional impairment, professional care, requested job
restrictions and ADA accommodations, safety risk, and other issues.
Dr. Karman's early career included positions
at Biola University, La Mirada, where he started
as Director the Computer Center for several years where he also
developed and taught computer science curriculum: hardware and
software system design, operating systems, database design,
programming languages, and management information/decision support
systems. He later became the Biola College's Psychologist and
Director of Counseling, Career Planning, and Learning Center.
He provided group therapy for child abuse survivors, individual
supervision of 100 doctoral practicum students, and MMPI
psychological screening of all entering freshmen and graduate
students, as well as part-time teaching in the Psychology
After his graduation from MIT, Dr. Karman was a Software Engineer
and Systems Analyst/Programmer and held technical staff and internal
consulting roles for engineering and business software
applications: research and development and technology
